Based on new mediatic concepts such as Virtual Community (H. Rheingold), Radical Media (J. D. H. Downing) and Tactical Media (D. Garcia/G. Lovink), among others, Canal Contemporâneo builds up a digital community focused on Brazilian Contemporary Art in order to support sociability, information, political participation and a feeling of inclusion with the goal of generating transformation within its context. With the input of a diversified body of participants, information and discussions on art, art circuits and systems and public policies are shared.

"Chernobyl", a project by Alice Miceli

The Invisible Mark: Capturing radiation images in Chernobyl’s exclusion zone
The goal of this project is to create a series of radiographic images of the exclusion zone in Chernobyl, Belarus. These images will be generated by the very invisible radiation that isolates the place. In a certain way, the goal here is to produce images of the “invisible”: images created by a kind of energy extensively present in the whole affected area and, still, completely invisible except for the traces of destruction it leaves behind.

Oiticica as a mere tacky one, by Rubens Pileggi Sá

Emotions at the year’s end
The atmosphere at the end of the year got really hot for the art scene. Among some controversies, we may mention the debate created by Camillo Osorio’s criticism about the care given to the Centro de Arte Hélio Oiticica’s collection. César Oiticica, director and private owner of the works of his brother, answered angrily to the provocations, published by O Globo.

ONU discounts changes about controlling Internet, Terra Magazine

Project "Calhau" gathers 25 artists in an anti-exhibition on websites' publicity spaces
The Internet should continue being supervised by large agencies such as ICANN and the International Communications Union instead of some new superstructure, affirmed the new director of the department linked to the United Nations. Hamadoun Toure, who took the presidency of ICU on last month, said the agency should focus on issues of Internet security and the reduction of digital inequality between rich and poor countries.

“We should all work together, each agency has a role to fulfill. We need to develop a better cooperation and avoid the creation of a superstructure which would be quite controversial and quite difficult to implement”, he said in a public interview.

Arco 08 – A coverage made by many hands, Patricia Canetti

Canal Contemporâneo invites its many users who were present at ARCO to publish their impressions about the fair, the parallel events and, of course, Madrid.
Five days were not enough to see the fair, the parallel Brazilian events, the exhibitions in Madrid’s galleries, meeting people, sharing the great event with many Brazilian professionals who were there and, also, finishing the talk I am going to give at the Arteleku Cultural center in San Sebastián. It was not enough time to follow the technological works of Canal in São Paulo... Therefore, let’s once again articulate a many hands coverage to talk about ARCO 08 and the participation of Brazil as the invited country.
