Do objeto para o mundo - Coleção Inhotim no Itaú Cultural, São Paulo
Do objeto para o mundo é a primeira exposição itinerante da Coleção Inhotim e reúne obras de 29 artistas de diversas gerações e partes do mundo. A mostra ocupa o prédio do Itaú Cultural depois de passar pela Fundação Clóvis Salgado, em Belo Horizonte, e as obras apresentadas propõem uma entre muitas possíveis antologias do acervo.

No primeiro piso, a exposição se subdivide em salas que examinam quatro momentos de formação da arte contemporânea: o neoconcretismo brasileiro, a produção dos anos 1960, o grupo de vanguarda japonesa Gutai e as práticas de acionismo e de performance dos anos 1970. As obras e os documentos históricos são apresentados ao lado de trabalhos mais recentes, apontando para sua contundência no presente e para uma ideia de história em construção.
Nos pisos – 1 e -2, obras em várias mídias e suportes de Anri Sala, Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, David Lamelas, Jorge Macchi, Marcius Galan, Marcellvs L., Michael Smith e Raquel Garbelotti dão sequência ao percurso expositivo, agrupando dois recortes que examinam as relações entre som e imagem e ilusão e percepção.
O título DO OBJETO PARA O MUNDO faz menção ao movimento de aproximação do objeto de arte à experiência cotidiana e de mundo do espectador, desmaterializando-se ou tomando novas feições mais próximas à vida. É ainda uma referência à manifestação “Do corpo à terra”, realizada em Belo Horizonte, em 1970, e ao mote de Hélio Oiticica: “museu é o mundo”.
Ao fazer circular seu acervo e propor novas leituras e interpretações sobre ele, o Inhotim contribui para a partilha da cultura na sociedade, aprofundando afinidades estéticas e conceituais com seu trabalho dos últimos dez anos. A duradoura parceria com o Itaú Cultural garante que este trabalho tenha maior alcance e perenidade.

Neste ano, o Banco Itaú e o Itaú Cultural celebram cinco anos de parceria com o Instituto Inhotim. Localizado em Brumadinho, na região metropolitana de Belo Horizonte, o maior complexo museológico do país oferece a seus visitantes uma experiência única, na medida em que propõe uma relação espacial entre a arte e a natureza.
Com um dos mais significativos acervos de arte contemporânea do mundo, o instituto mineiro realiza pela primeira vez uma exposição de parte de seu acervo fora de sua sede. O fato inédito, comemoração dos anos de parceria, trará ao Itaú Cultural, em São Paulo, DO OBJETO PARA O MUNDO, em cartaz até 31 de maio.
A mostra exibirá obras de artistas produzidas entre 1950 e as primeiras décadas dos anos 2000. DO OBJETO PARA O MUNDO investiga quatro momentos de formação da arte contemporânea e traz para perto o objeto artístico do cotidiano do espectador. Desse modo, a exposição está em total sintonia com as ações do Itaú Cultural, que valoriza experiências culturais e a aproximação do público com a arte e a cultura brasileiras. Além de exposições como esta, o Itaú Cultural utiliza o ambiente virtual como grande mecanismo de difusão de conhecimento, sendo a primeira instituição a disponibilizar uma enciclopédia de arte brasileira na internet, totalmente gratuita, com mais de 8 mil verbetes e mais 1 milhão de usuários por mês.

Do objeto para o mundo [From the Object to the World] is Inhotim Collection’s first traveling exhibition, featuring works by 29 artists from different generations and parts of the world. The show is being held at the headquarters of Itaú Cultural, in São Paulo, after having been presented at Fundação Clóvis Salgado, in Belo Horizonte. This publication features short texts about each of the artists in the show, as well as exhibition plans showing how the artworks are arranged in the space. It serves as a guide for the viewer while also allowing for the study of the exhibition after the visit.
The works represent one among many possible anthologies of the collection. On the first floor, the show is subdivided in rooms that examine four moments of the development of contemporary art: Brazilian neoconcretism, the production of the 1960s, the Japanese avant-garde group Gutai, and the practices of action art and performance art in the 1970s. The historical documents and artworks are presented alongside more recent works, indicating their impact on current art while also alluding to the idea of a history under construction.
In the floors -1 and -2, artworks in various media and on different supports by Anri Sala, Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, David Lamelas, Jorge Macchi, Marcius Galan, Marcellvs L., Michael Smith and Raquel Garbelotti are grouped into two sections that examine the relationships between sound and image, and illusion and perception.
The title DO OBJETO PARA O MUNDO refers to the movement of the art object’s approximation with everyday experience and to the world of the spectator, becoming dematerialized or taking on new aspects closer to life. It is also a reference to the art event “Do corpo à terra” [From the Body to the Earth], held in Belo Horizonte, in 1970, and to Hélio Oiticica’s motto: “museu é o mundo” [the museum is the world]. By making its collection circulate and by proposing new readings and interpretations for it, Inhotim is contributing to the sharing of culture in society, thereby deepening aesthetic and conceptual affinities with its work over the last ten years. The lasting partnership with Itaú Cultural ensures that this work has greater reach and perenniality.

This year Banco Itaú and Itaú Cultural celebrate five years of collaborative work with the Instituto Inhotim. The show will feature works of artists made between 1950 and the 2000s. DO OBJETO PARA O MUNDO investigates four milestones in the history of contemporary art and brings the artistic object closer to the spectator’s everyday life. In this way the exhibition is perfectly consistent with the actions taken by Itaú Cultural, which values cultural experiences and the approach of the audience to the Brazilian art and culture.
Besides exhibitions like this, Itaú Cultural uses the virtual environment as an important mechanism to disseminate knowledge. It is the first institution to provide an encyclopedia of Brazilian art on the Internet completely free of charge, including more than eight thousand entries and viewed by over a million users per month.
