Marcio Doctors é curador, com formação em filosofia, vive e trabalha na cidade do Rio de Janeiro. No final dos anos 70, trabalhou com o renomado crítico de arte Mário Pedrosa. É o criador do Espaço de instalações permanentes do Museu do Açude, pioneiro no Brasil em relacionar arte contemporânea e natureza, onde instaurou a primeira obra pública de Hélio Oiticica, o Magic Square # 5-De Luxe, em 2000. Foi crítico de arte do jornal O Globo entre 1979 e 1982. Doctors é curador da Fundação Eva Klabin e, desde 2004, através do projeto Respiração, criado por ele, convida artistas contemporâneos para fazerem intervenções na coleção de arte clássica da casa museu.

Permanent Installations Space of Museu do Açude was created by Marcio Doctors in 1999. It received public recognition for its excellence in 2004 in the form of the Estácio de Sá prize, awarded by the Rio de Janeiro State Government. It is the first collection of contemporary art installations set in the natural environment in Brazil. Open to the public and situated in the heart of Tijuca Forest, it effectively belongs to the cultural heritage of the Brazilian people. Marcio Doctors first started to contemplate the idea of a space for installations in 1978, when he met Mario Pedrosa, whose aesthetic conceptions – seeing art as the totality of the world – complemented some of Doctors’s own ideas derived from his philosophical thinking. Doctors’s project casts a contemporary light on Museu do Açude and offers a unique experience of the relationship between the art of today and the natural landscape of Rio de Janeiro. Doctors’s own work is permeated by significant aesthetic experiences nourished by his philosophical investigations in his work as a curator. This project is a culmination and confirmation of a trajectory of great intellectual quality and rigor. Permanent Installations Space at Museu do Açude has reconfigured the sculpture garden in a relationship with cosmology, putting Brazil on a par with the most significant debates about space and time in the Americas.
