In 1976, photographer Claudia Andujar traveled from São Paulo to North Brazil in a black Volkswagen Beetle accompanied by her work partner at that time, Carlo Zacquini. The goal of this trip was to take a land route to the Yanomami villages, in Roraima, to thus continue the works begun in 1971, the year the artist had her first contact with Yanomami culture. Throughout that trip of more than 16 days, the artist photographed landscapes between São Paulo and Manaus, always inside the black Beetle, and from Manaus to Roraima while onboard the ferryboat that carried the Beetle upriver.
